Are males born or made?
from the reading "how to be a man" by Anne fausto-sterling my understanding is that men cannot be made only born. When you are inside the womb your already being challanged to stay a boy if something goes wrong you become a woman once born if your member is 0.6inches you are detirmined inadiquit and made into a female. The reason your sex is change is because in the eyes of the docters you are unable to reproduce and they will change you into a woman because you are no good as a man. Although boys can be made into woman at birth woman cannot be made into boys, one surgeon commented "its's easier to poke a hole than to build a pole" as an example of why boys are changed into girls and not girls into boys. Then the mental aspect comes into play these bots made into girls tend to be tougher than regular girls and some grow up to like woman instead of men which is what a boy does even thoe they are now female and never knew they are originaly male. This makes you wonder if a male is born or made that question comes down to how you define a male. In conclusion i believe males cannot be made regardless of the cases of the woman who were originally boys, I say this because a man's sole purpose in life according to docters is the reproduce and this cannot be tought you are born either with or without this ability.

  1. Your post raises several interesting questions regarding how science attempts to control and at times to correct nature. It is very interesting that you state "When you are inside the womb your already being challanged to stay a boy." What/who challenges the boy? Also, think about the concept of normalcy. You refer to the example of girls, who were born boys, acting tougher than "regular girls." What does it mean to be a 'regular' girl or boy? Fausto-Sterling suggests that socialization-how parents treat their childern who had a sex change- may convey to the childern that at birth they were of the different sex. That's why a girl, who was born a boy, may develop feelings for a girl because her parents, though maybe unaware, communicate and encourage her to behave in a masculine manner. Do you think that's possible?

  2. what/who challenges the boy?
in the reading it says "the male is inconstant danger. At any point male development can be derailed; a failure to activate SDY and the gonad becomes an ovary; a failure to make MIS,and the fetus can end up with fallopian tubes and a uterus superimposed on an otherwise male body; a failure to make fetal testosterone, and, despite the presence of a testis, the embryo develops the external trappings of a baby girl"

that is why i said from the womb there fighting to remain a boy.

  3. Miss B. raises some interesting question. What does it mean to be a "regular" girl or boy? Our society set certain standards for boys and girls how they should act and look.Boys are usually play with cars, not dolls. They fight and play rough games with other boys.Boys are usually taught not to cry, because if they do, they are not considered strong man. That is the mean for a regular boy.
